Did anyone actually like DMC2?

Postby dark_slayer_23 » Thu Jul 23, 2009 9:29 pm

Really, did anyone like it? I think the only good things about this game were the bloody palace and the fact that you have the desperation DT. Other then that, I think this game was a flop and did not live up to DMC or what i expected after playing DMC. What do you guys think?

I thought it was ok. Granted it wasn't epic or even as good as it could have been. But I loved not only the Desperation DT but Dante's DT in general.
This is the coolest DT I've seen in any of the games, and in my opinion this is how Dante's trigger should look like. The appearance of it actually looked demonic and he even had the ability to fly. The other DT's either looked like a weird ass alien or just a glowy character.

The other thing I liked about it was the acrobatics or parkour. Sure they allowed you to do similar things in DmC3 and 4. But you had to equip 'Trickster' and it just wasn't the same. From the get go you could do backflips, run up walls, and across buildings.

Now after saying all of this, the story was shit. In all honesty that was the worst part of the game. Even Capcom knows they screwed up here in this department. I don't think they know where to take it now. Hence the reason we have Nero and a totally different plot.

I agree with Cobalt. Dante definitely had the best Devil Trigger in this game. It was powerful, and looked bad ass. It would have been incredibly cool to be able to fly around freely on some stages while fighting airborne enemies.

I liked the urban setting of the game. The gothic castle in the first game can't be surpassed in looks, but the environments in DMC2 offered nice variety and for the first time gave the impression that Dante is actually dealing with demons in the human world.

Fighting enemies was too easy and lacked variety. All of your melee weapons were swords, and each had the same moveset. You could only upgrade the attack power of your weapons, and that was unnecessary, because the weapons were too powerful to begin with. More often than not the enemies died before you were able to reach a good combo ranking.

The story was bullshit. It was basically a watered down version of DMC1 plot with lame and meaningless characters.

Playing as Trish was fun. I would like to be able to play as her in future DMC games too.

All in all, DMC2 was an OK game for me. It was a decent action game that obviously wasn't able to live up to the expectations set by the extraordinarily awesome first game.

Come to think of it, you guys do make a good point. Dante's DT was the best in this game. Capcom really should have done something about the story or demons. I also agree with you cobalt, this game is probably why we have Nreo now. The enviorment was ok, however, I still perfer the castle in the first game. And the able to do all of the "trickster" style moves in this game was good. I guess it was ok, i was expecting more from it though.

Ya, The Rage totally agrees with Zech and Cobalt. The DT was uber baddass, and probably the only reason I really loved DMC2 (other than his outfit). I love the styles, don't get me wrong, but shouldn't Dante be able to do ALL these things at the same time without having to switch back and forth??? Srsly!

It was a flop, I hated the characters, but it still had some great concepts. Some great concepts.

I loved/hated it.

I Won't Lie I Actually Kinda Liked The Game. I Didn't Really Mind The Awkward Story Line Or The Characters And I Agree With What Everyone Is Saying In Terms Of Dante's DT It Was Pretty Cool, Though To Be Honest I Could Have Done Without The Change In Dante's Personality. That Was Probably The One Thing About The Game That Killed Me Was How Dramatically Different Dante Was. @,@ Capcom Don't Ever Do That Again Dante Has To Keep That Cocky Attitude Of His Or It Just Ruins Him And The Game In My Opinion.

As For The Enemies @_@; Good God That Last One Just Kinda Weirded Me Out. The Chaos Embodied Thing Was Just, I Don't Know What To Say About It, It Was Just That Odd To Me. I Almost Coulda Done Without That One And The Living Helicopters And Tanks Were A Little Strange To But Were Fun To Fight

e.e I Don't Really Have Much To Say About The Other Characters. Lucia Was Pretty Cool But I Hated The Personality She Had. It Seemed Kinda Like The Whole Self Loathing Thing And Arius Just Pissed Me Off. >_<; I Swear His Voice Has Got To Be The Most Annoying Thing In The World Next To Arkham's Shiny Head...
