The when was 1998. The where was Raccoon city. The what was viral outbreak. The how was betrayal. Seven years ago in a town called Raccoon city, two men by the names of Albert Wesker and William Birkin planned to betray the corporation known as Umbrella. These two were top researchers at Umbrella, and both had had a hand in creating the T and G viruses. The first step in executing their plan was to lure the S.T.A.R.S. team to the Spencer mansion. Before they could do this, a man named Marcus, infected a private Umbrella train called the Ecliptic express. You see, Marcus had been a top researcher at Umbrella and created the motherboard virus. This virus s the one from which stems all other of Umbella's heinous synthetic viruses.
A few years ago, Marcus had been betrayed by Wesker and Birkin. They were his prodigies and most trusted students. After killing Marcus, the two stole his research and took it for themselves. Little did the two know that Marcus' research with the virus on leeches had caused them to develop a bond with him. Shortly after he died the leeches revived him and became a part of him. After resurrecting, Marcus took on a younger appearance.
After the train had been infected, murders started being reported and missing persons reports were going up. The S.T.A.R.S (Special Tactics and Rescue Squad) were sent into the Arklay mountains to investigate these strange happenings. First, Bravo team was sent in to investigate. Rebecca Chambers and the rest of Bravo team found the Ecliptic express and Umbrella training facility. A ex-military man named Billy Coen accompanied Rebecca through these areas and the two developed a bond. After escaping the horrors of these places, Rebecca moved in with what remained of Bravo team into the mansion. Shortly after entering the mansion Bravo team was picked off one-by-one with only a few members remaining. After not hearing from Bravo team for a while, Alpha team was deployed via helicopter to the Arklay mountains. Once there they were attacked by monsters. They fled and sought shelter in the Spencer mansion. After exploring they uncovered a conspiracy that would bring about the destruction of Raccoon city.
They found out the pharmaceutical company Umbrella Corp. which had helped Raccoon city to thrive had been performing biological weapons research with the Spencer mansion as a base. Chris Redfield, Jill, Valentine, Rebecca Chambers, and Barry Burton were the only survivors of this accident, or so they had thought. Wesker had faked his death and became super human by infection with a virus specially designed for him. Wesker had stood under-cover as a S.T.A.R.S operative and commander of Alpha team for a couple years before breaking away from Umbrella after his "death".
After gaining access to the roof, the remaining S.T.A.R.S. created an explosion that decimated the mansion. The horror didn't stop there. Shortly after this the S.T.A.R.S. tried to go public with their findings, but were labeled liars. Chris and Barry left the country to shut down Umbrella. Jill would join them shortly after finishing some business in Raccoon city.
A rookie cop named Leon Kennedy rode into town on a transfer from the academy. It was no coincidence that on the same day, Claire Redfield, rode into town in search of her brother. These two as well as Jill put an end to Umbrella in Raccoon, at a price. This price was the destruction Raccoon. The United States government bombarded Raccoon city to prevent the spread of the T-virus. This marked the end of Raccoon city, but Umbrella would continue its sickening actions although officially bankrupt. Our story begins here, after Leon Kennedy saved the President's daughter. The plagas has been obtained by Wesker now working in the shadows.
