ICO and Shadow of the Colossus.

Well, I am aware that we already have a thread for Shadow of the Colossus, but I thought, well they have a lot of connections and should be in one thread, rather than making a new one just to talk about ICO, and not have one in the Middle where you can talk about both, do you get where I am going with this.

Anyway, yes, I am a big fan of both games, Shadow of the Colossus more so, because I only just picked up ICO the other night, although I am close to completion. But, I like Shadow of the Colossus more so, because it has so much cool features, and the type of things that you only see in movies and wish they would put all that into a Game.

Well, with this one, I must say Sony were really thinking, they did exactly what Sony fans wanted, and look at the result. Now I am not sure exactly how many Shadow of the Colossus fans we have here at Sons of Sparda, but judging from the Previous thread it is enough to make a Discussion with. Well, what this thread is about really, is comparing the games, and what is the same in each and how they have hidden connections.

I have not yet completed ICO as stated above, so I don't know the full story of it, but as I said I am nearly there, so it won't be long before I can post a lot of mine. Now then, I will post about the two games, but I will leave ICO out for someone else to do, because I haven't played it all the way through.

    Shadow of the Colossus

This was a game unlike any other, and that is what made it so popular. I will post a quote from the back of the Box, for those who may be interested in buying this game.
'Tales speak of a distant place where creatures the size of mountains roam free. Bound to the land, these beasts hold the key to a Mystical power - a power capable of bringing the Departed back from the other side.'

This game featured sixteen Colossi, in which you had to fight to get a Loved one back, but it stated that there may be some consequences in doing so. There was talk of a Seventeenth Colossi, but they stated that there was not a Seventeenth, but there are other features in which you had to find out.

The Secret Garden was impressive, you had to climb the tower in order to get to the Secret Garden. In order to do this, you had to go through the game about four times, in order to have enough Stamina to climb this huge tower. I have climbed the tower Several times, and in doing so, I unlocked some special things such as a Different colour Horse and everything.

There has now been an official statement to say that 'Wander' in this game was the Ancestor of the Main character in ICO, and obviously in stating this, they have said that Shadow of the Colossus was a Prequel to ICO. Now, I know there aren't Colossi featured in ICO and the storys are a lot different but there are some links between the main characters of both games.

Although I won't get into this too much right now, instead I will let you all talk about it, so go ahead guys. Oh and I would much appreciate it if someone could write a little Synapis on ICO please, that would help me out a lot guys.

So go ahead and talk about one epic game.

Re: ICO and Shadow of the Colossus.

Well, it is nice to meet a new Shadow of the Colossus and ICO fan, Vredina. But please, use the Edit button if you want to add something to your previous post, don't make double posts.

And every other fan of ICO and SotC here on SoS, let us hear your opinions! :))

    ICO

This is an unique and a very atmospheric game for the Playstation 2. It was first released in 2002, and it was re-released when Shadow of the Colossus came out in 2006. The story is completely different than that of Shadow of the Colossus, but the two games have a lot of connections to each other. ICO continues the story long time after the events of Shadow of the Colossus.

The sad thing is that ICO is not well known and that's why most of the gamers haven't got the chance to experience this game which is unlike any other game you have played. Or maybe gamers had the chance when the game was first released, but ignored it, because they had no courage to try a different game that was released almost without any hype. Hopefully Shadow of the Colossus gets more people to try this awesome game.

ICO tells a tale of a young boy who was born with horns sticking out of his head. He is the descendant of Wander who is the main character of Shadow of the Colossus. It is not known how many generations have passed since the events of SotC, but the lead designer of the games, Fumito Ueda, stated that is a very long time. The old traditions of Ico's village say that horns are a bad omen and that they must sacrifice every boy who borns with horns to save their village. Ico is imprisoned on castle on a distant island which is ruled by an old and powerful queen. He manages to escape from his tomb and meets a young girl named Yorda who is also a prison of the castle. They have no common language to communicate with, but they must work together if they want to escape from the castle.

I leave the story at that point, because I don't want to spoil it for anyone who has not yet played the game. But I'll give you one word of advice: If you own a PS2 and want to experience a game that is touching, beautiful and epic, do yourself a favor and play ICO. It is one of those games which from PS2 will be remembered and deserves more attention.

Re: ICO and Shadow of the Colossus.

I'm also a fan of those incredible games. Year before, around 2003 I've had a glimpse of ICO and really liked, never managed to find it though..But then on a magazine I saw that SOtC was going to be released on 2006 something. Well finally I managed to find the game around summer and really loved it. You can get stuck for hours but when you get what you need to do you're like "oh, it's soo simple" especially the last boss. The first two times I finished the game I managed to reach his weak point with weird waysStick out tongue Finally realized the true pathway in the 3rd try. Awesome games, and really different from what've seen.

Plus Agro and the 13 boss battle rock!

Re: ICO and Shadow of the Colossus.

Lol, I love those games, and I am glad to see we have a little following between all of us here at Sons of Sparda. It's really nice to see that some of us do indeed know about this game, and know of it's potential, when I first played it, I was like Oh my god, this game is awesome. And I couldn't stop playing until I got to like the Seventh Colossi. And the next day I couldn't stop playing, and then I started nearing the end, and was Judging whether there was a Seventeenth Colossi, because it would have been nice to have. But sadly there wasn't..

It also would have been nice to have an alternative ending, where you kill the men, and then I don't know, but surely Ueda could have come up with something, or when you escape the Tower/Castle, and Mono awakes and finds you (as a grown man) and then, you know, it would have been nice to see the reaction between these two. And what he has been through just to bring her back, really shows how much he loves her, and they could have included that in the ending of the game, instead of keeping us in suspense as to what happened. But, we could work it out, after some thought, couldn't we?

I have a feeling that both the fans and Ueda are hinting towards a Shadow of the Colossus two, which would be nice to see, and still, it could have connections to ICO and Shadow of the Colossus, if he does do it, or I hope that he keeps the same theme of Gameplay for upcoming games, because we know that he has one underwork right now. Although, we don't know what plans he has, but I would like to see his plans. :)) He must think a lot when creating these games, and that is what I admire about his games, they are so awesome, and he lets you come up with a back track to the story. :))

Re: ICO and Shadow of the Colossus.

I have played both games, but I liked Shadow of the Colossus a lot more.

Shadow of the Colossus is one of the greatest games I have ever played. It was truly an experience unlike any other, where else can you find a game that puts you on a quest to kill creatures that no human can withstand? Every single boss needed a different approach to kill. And whenever a boss was defeated the feeling of reward and accomplishment was tremendous. The boss fights were very epic and the storyline was very touching.

It isn't just a game, it is a work of art.

Re: ICO and Shadow of the Colossus.

Well, maybe there aren't so many fans here on SoS (or they just don't want to voice their opinions) but I'm sure there are still many of them around. Even though these games definitely deserve a lot more attention. After all, in my opinion they are one of the best and most unique games ever.

And thanks, Vredina. Fatal Frame is my favorite survival horror game series after Silent Hill. :))

But now back on topic. Come on, everyone! I'm sure that some of you have something more to say about these two remarkable pieces of gaming art. :)) If you post negative comments, you can expect to get banned. LOL, J/K. ;)
