Greg shook his daughter lightly to wake her up. Outside the sun had risen and the city was quiet. The night had passed, and with it the demons. Greg knew they had to have an early start and early finish today. Today Greg planned to visit the grocery store which was a thirty minute drive from where they lived. That was the problem, thirty minute drive. Greg and his daughter didn't have a car. They lost the car just before all this had happened. They had gotten into a wreck and they were supposed to get a rental, but it never happened. Greg and his daughter were in desperate need for supplies such as: water, instant food, and canned foods. They had plenty of luxuries such as chocolate and other candies, but candy wouldn't quench their thirst and fill their bellies.
"Dad, what time is it?"
"It doesn't matter what time it is, the sun is up."
Greg's daughter, Lauren rolled over onto her stomach. "Dad, do I have to go? Can I just stay here?"
"No, I need you to go with me."
Lauren took a deep breath, then got out of bed.
"Dad! Where is the toothpaste!?" yelled Lauren from their bathroom
"It should be in the shower!" replied Greg
"Thanks Dad."
Lauren began brushing her teeth, but toothpaste was about the only luxury they had. They had no bath water, no hair products, and definitely no deoderant. Lauren came out of the bathroom after rinsing with the clear rain water from the previous night. Greg quickly brushed his teeth too, then pushed Lauren out the door. It took them a while to get to the grocery store, but when they did they quickly rummaged through the aisles and took only the essentials.
