Well I've noticed something, not very many people can commit to even being here most of the time as far as I know there are only about twenty members (including myself) that even make frequent visits to this site.

    2: Setup/organization

kk, now that you have it all on paper, let’s put it on the forum!

Think of a cool name that supports the theme of your rp, and now to work on the essential first post…

Ok, so let’s think of your rp as a club, what questions might someone ask.

Joiner dude: yea, I'm interested in your club and I’d like to know what it’s about exactly.
Club owner: It’s a club for people who like cans, and we have can competitions in which we kick the cans as far as we can.
Joiner dude: lol @ pun, so what about my can, can it be any can?
Club owner: it can be anything but a tuna can!
Joiner dude: cool any other rules?
Club owner: no smoking, eating, or drinking in the club room! that’s about it.
Joiner dude: awesome! How's this can?
Club owner: Great! The competition starts in 2 days!
Joiner dude: looking’ forward to it!

So in short, we have to tell them:

    What’s the RP about
    There character criteria
    The rules
    When it starts.

The intro to your rp should be easy for you to figure out, as far as character criteria, some essentials are the name, gender, appearance, and powers, but some have more fields to fill, and you can add more, just don’t make it feel like a tax form. It helps to give an example by filling out your sheet with one of your own characters.

As for rules? I recommend these 5:

1: No using other people’s characters without their approval. This includes dialogues and actions.

(people can be easily offended when someone makes there character act out of character, or kills them off without there permission. The only guy that can kill without permission is you!)

2: Make a post at least once a week. Unless you’re going to be absent for a while, which you can PM me to inform

(and by me, I mean you! We have to make sure the rpers post regularly)

    3: No invincible, almighty characters.

(there overrated and stupid, as you should know by now. However, if one does join, you can always kill them off… sorry, taking well crafted characters and killing them has become very entertaining for me!)

4: You can device any sub-plot as long as you stick to the main plot.

(because if you aren’t, you should make a fiction, or your own rp :P)

    5: You are a good/bad guy.

(let them know if they can be villains or not, and what factions there allowed to join if applicable)

also, you can recommend they look at this rp tut as rule 0 :P

As for when the rp starts? You can set a date or when X amount of members join.

    Now the hard part, management!

If you’re like me when I started my first rp, you’re going to let everyone in who wants to be in right? You are right? Because your nice and you think that just because someone is illiterate or doesn’t speak English as there main language they should be aloud to post in your rp right?

Don’t, not unless you absolutely need them!

I know it’s harsh, but good grammar is important. If they’re posts could be miss read causing confusion and chaos among your good rpers. I find most players like this tend to get left behind in your rp anyway. there are rare acceptations however, but don’t count on being lucky enough to have it happen to you.

Keep an eye on the older members. Are they in a lot of rps? do they abandon rps often? Important stuff man!

Also, count on half of your cast leaving about 3-4 pages into your rp, it always happens, it’s not your fault, and don’t sink into despair when it does happen.

    Guess that’s it, next up…

3: Governing your RP/keeping everyone happy

I highly recommend you make a new topic for your RP’s story, and you use the old topic to make announcements and ask for suggestions.

Anyway, You’ve kicked off your rp by making the first post and guiding everyone in a direction, maybe you sent everyone hunting for an artifact, maybe you sent everyone to go train somewhere. Anyway it’s your job to make sure the story continues as you like. Be sure to keep everyone on the right path, it usually pays to have a main hero that you control that everyone is suppose to follow around and help take down whatever it is there suppose to do. Be sure to add a plot twist along the way, and balance the action and story out. Too much of either can be a bad thing.

But even with a fool proof plan, you will likely encounter problems:

    God-modders
    confused people
    annoying people

Here’s how I deal with each:

God-modders have to be dealt with. If they seldom do it, give a warning via pm first, or in your announcement thread if you notice a few people doing it.  If they constantly do really bad things, kill him off immediately. You can’t risk that kind of behavior. Soon everyone in your rp will be a god modder, then it’ll be up to you, the heroic lone rp master to bring down your own rp!

    …wait…

Confused people, well, if they say something that doesn’t make a lot of sense, pm them or drop a note in your announcement thread. Also, if it’s too screwy, be sure to have a mod clean it up.

Annoying people, well in short, they get into squanders in your rp when there forced to make a decision among themselves (who’s character would win in a dual, etc) and you may need to step in. if this sort of thing happens often with a particular player, you may have to consider giving him a warning, or killing him off.

Can’t think of anything else to say! That’s all for now!

I read your "How to Rp (the right way)" but it is still a little confuising to me. If you could send tips that can help me understand better, that would be apreciated.

Re: The Breakster Teaches how to RP (the right way)

    Alright...

just to make things easy, let's pretend in this particular RP, a vampire called rita crosses paths with a human vampire hunter named jax. jax has a steak launcher, and an assortment of knives, and all the leather padding a vampire hunter could ask for. Rita is well, not very well armed, but is incredibly strong, and more athletic than our mortal  hunter jax. she also has a ring that makes her impervious to sunlight. Jax doesn't know rita is a vampire, and likewise, she doesn't know he's a vampire hunter (but she can tell he's a hunter of something) so, there going to cross paths in a sun lit medow filled with white flowers. this has all been defined in previous posts.

(Jax): Jax walked threw the meadow, hopping he followed the wandering merchants directions properly. he hated being lost, and he knew every second he waisted was one more the town had to deal with the vampires! he did however love the look of the white flowers. they reminded him of his own home town where similar flowers where always displayed outside his window. among the flowers he notice a beautiful blond woman, her sweater almost as white as the flowers themselves. her blue skirt was the only thing that set her apart from them. perhaps she knew where the town was?

"Greetings stranger!, Do you happen to know the way to hamster town?"  (only name I could think of, sorry!)

(...and that's realy all Jax is allowed to do. if he wishes, he could have described what she was doing in the previous post Rita made if he desired, to sort of bridge his post into hers. but there is no previous post so I didn't do that.)

(Rita): The blond vampire had just finished picking flowers to die her new sweater when she heard Jax's voice. Turning her head, she could see Jax. Everything about him was big. big arms, big chin, big legs, big weapons, and his brown leather really set him apart from the flowers. "Oh, you want to get down to the town?" Rita said this almost cutely as she stuffed the flowers into a basket she was carrying with her. but, she did need to know what this man was doing. after all, he looked like he was geared up to kill something very vicious. "What are you going to do down there?" she quickly wrapped her arm around Jax's and started walking with him.

(Jax's turn, now, despite the fact that the player jax knows Rita is a vampire, that doesn't mean Jax the character knows, so he's not going to pop a steak threw her back now, despite the fact that it would be the perfect time to do so. also, because Jax has no reason to suspect she's a vampire, well, why not tell her why he's here?)

(jax): He grinned as he walked with her. "I'm a vampire hunter, The townsfolk called upon me to deal with there threat. It's believed that there are quite a few there, but I won't know till I've investigated."

(Rita): "Oh, so you're going to save us huh?" Rita was secretly terrified with the news. she never killed a human in her life, but her brothers had, and she would likely die fr there sins...if she let Jax live. "Oh, I'm so relieved someone is finaly doing something about all this..." The vampire rested her head on Jax's shoulder, clinging to his arm even tighter. if she could get close enough to his neck, he would be done for!

(Jax): The vampire hunter was puzzled by the woman's attitude. he could feel her heart beating relatively fast against his arm, yet she was acting very...passionate towards him at the moment. he felt uncased by it intact. "Well, just doing my job." He said and tried to shake her loose.

(Rita): Rita felt his arm shake, but didn't budge. She reached her arm round his waist and was now practically hugging him. the vampire wouldn't let him take another step. "Why did you push me away?" Rita sounded wounded as she rested her head upon the man's chest.

(Jax): "Look lady, you're getting a little too clingy for my liking." Jax grabbed Rita around her waist and attempted to pry her off.

(Rita): Jax couldn't pry her fingers off of his shirt however, her grip was far too strong. The vampire tilted her head up and looked into Jax eyes. her own where starting to glow, a sure sign she was a vampire. "What's the matter, you don't like girls?"

(Fighting is pretty much the same way. you make an attack, then your opponent has to come up with a counter attack.)

(Jax): Jax acknowledged the fact that he was now dealing with a vampire. he quickly took off his hardened leather jacket, allowing it and Rita to fall onto the ground. during the confusion, he pulled out his steak launcher and fired it into his jacket, hoping to nail Rita.

(rita): The vampire knew she was in trouble now, her opponent could attack from range. however, on the up side, the meadow, along with her hair, skin, and clothing, where all about the same color, so spotting her would be difficult, especially with the mountain breeze blowing all the time . "Oh sir, I never did get your name, may I hear it so it can be etched on your tombstone?"

(Jax): He looked at the meadow, she had entirely disappeared. "It's Jax, for the song, not my grave stone however." He said with a nervous chuckle. The hunter slowly grabbed his vest and pulled the steak out of it. "Your name will be in the song to if you tell me your name, what is it?"

(Rita): "Oh, the fabled Jax spears the vampire Rita's dark heart? is that what they'll sing about?" the echo made it very hard to tell where she was speaking from. then, without warning, Rita launched herself out of the meadow at Jax's back.

(Jax): Startled, Jax quickly side stepped her attack and attempted to fire again at her befor she dissapeared into the flowery meadow. he aimed infront of where she was going to be to try and compensate for her speed.

(Rita): "Ghah!" The Spear like projectile cut into Rita's shoulder and passed threw the other side, leaving a gaping hole in hr. "M-My sweater!"  she watched as the blood soaked into it, and tried to drink it as well. this wasn't a fatal wound at all, but it would take some time to heal, and the sweater wouldn't be able to be fixed likely. "Till we meat again Jax, I look folward to the second encounter!" then the meadow became dangerously quiet.

(Jax): "well, that was interesting... I wonder if she's still around..."

The hunter cautiously walked thew the meadow, hoping "Rita" wasn't still here.
