Re: What do you think of Nero???

i remember hearing it in a different post, i think from lobuk who knows more about it that i do. ill try to find the post.

[edit] here it is. i found it in "the megaman effect?!"

    Kazumaru:

Wow... umm... back to the point.

I personally like megaman (only the X and Z series) and I have loved every Final Fantasy Game that I have had the privelege of playing, But they have different influences in their respective genres than our beloved DMC. Final Fantasy sets the bar with every game that comes out. They set the bar (usually) with the gameplay and (almost) always graphically. Final Fantasy is (from my understanding) one of the most far reaching RPGs ever made. People of all ages and all cultures enjoy Final Fantasy. Megaman, on the other hand, got out of hand (no pun intended). As was mentioned by Lobuk I believe earlier in this thread, the original series was only meant to run to 5, X was supposed to star Zero, and Z was supposed to come after X 5. So the storyline is officially screwed. Also, I do not believe that ANY of the Mega Man games have EVER attempted to set any bars.

Now let's take a look at Devil May Cry. The original was an instant hit because it was something that had never been done before. It was "stylish," fast paced, hard, and all in a horror environment. It blew everyones mind because is was so original and so creative. And to top it all off, it had a (forgive the language pls) "badass" main character. It was supposed to be a different main character in every game though (appearently). A different team and different director took over the reigns for DMC 2 and tried to redesign everything from the floor up. Now we must remember, while WE bash on DMC 2 all the time, the game was a hit on its native shores. But, Capcom realized that, outside of Japan, the game was ill recieved and sought to fix that problem. They upped the difficulty, closed the environments, gave Dante back his edge, darkened the environments, and basically tried their best to do a total 180 from DMC 2 when they put out Dante's Awakening. The game was a hit again and they were back on the right track. They see the popularity of Vergil and launch a promotional effort and give fans a chance to play as Vergil. It's a hit (though many are upset that he doesn't get his OWN missions and any extra vids except his intro)  Now Capcom knows what the fans want and they are trying to push that. They introduce Nero, who, similar to Axl in MMX, has a completely different play mechanic. Chances are he will remain in the series for a while. So DMC IS changing and only time will tell how the fans react. It may be to soon for such a change or the time might be just right, but capcom is a fan based company, give feed back and they'll respond (Except for the 360 issue, but, as that is a sore subject for me as well as others, we won't go there). Hope I didn't miss anything and if I did, please let me know. Just my humble opinion.

Re: What do you think of Nero???

I cannot understand how they could always put a new character as the main hero. 1st of all, the title of the game "devil may cry" is based on Dante's shop "devil may cry". 2nd Dante is the son of Sparda, the demon who closed the hellgate 2000 years before. The whole story is based on Sparda and his sons. 3rd DMC is not a game like final fantasy. Do you imagine trying to kill demons with sword and bow in a stylish action game? Or with lightsabers and blasters? Because final fantasy always takes a different story with a different world. It's easier. If they were trying to do the same with DMC they should always pick a different story and characters. This means no Dante,Vergil,Trish,Lady,Sparda. They should from the beggining think of a neutral title which wouldn't be the name of something or somebody. 4th And if they were putting a different hero always in the game then he or she should have a connection with Sparda at least. How many people could know Sparda? 5th and last, they always introduce new characters in the game. Except DMC1, the others had different heroes too. Lucia in DMC2, Vergil in DMC3 SP, Nero in DMC4, and all of them with Dante. I like Dante since I was 11 years old and i'd like to continue playing with him.

Dante is still in the game at least. But yeah, I don't like the idea of Nero becoming the focus, not at the moment.  Maybe my opinion will change once I play the game, but I imagine it will stay the same as there are so many reasons against replacing Dante.

Re: What do you think of Nero???

i honestly thought the next game (dmc 2) was supposed to be his son as the main character because of what dante said in dmc 1, and that's probably how it was supposed to go, but because of dante's popularity, it didn't happen. they were probably going to introduce a sparda game as well as a vergile game (which dmc 3 kinda was), but we can only wait and see. personally, i don't think nero's that bad of a choice. as long as the story and gameplay are good, i could care less who the main character is, unless he screws up the story somehow and im not talking about that "fill your dark soul with light" incedent because i kinda liked that, im talking like if nero turns out to be like aurius cause he was like... O.o

I don't like it. I understand why they made him look like Dante. It's exactly what happened with Metal Gear Solid. You didn't play as the main character but a look alike. It's cheap and unnecessary. However, we should be grateful that is all they took from Metal Gear. We could have been stuck with a Capcom version of Raiden. Wink

Re: What do you think of Nero???

At first, you guys, I HATED Nero. But after a little while, I kinda got to like the little guy...as a character, I mean. I still like Dante, too, as a character.... but just think what would happened if we only got to play Nero 40% of the time. The whole concept would spoil the game because there would be this irritating flea that played along side Dante in the series, but I believe that we newed to get to know Nero a little bit more if he were to come later in another game as Dante's partner (if such a thing were to happen)

    let's stay happy, people Smile

Stick out tongueWhen i first saw the DMC4 tralier and stuff....i was confused and thought it was Dante, Then went back looking at CLEARLY, it was a different guy. It felt like Nero is trying to take Dante's spot light, but i gotta admit Nero does look cute and all with his arm thing and  sword with that gun....but he's never take the place of Dante, who's HOT. They both look alike...i was hoping it would be Vergil as nero but that silly of me but still hoping though even though its not..lol...

Re: What do you think of Nero???

I have no problem with Nero's character - the main problem is that he doesn't have styles, and has hardly any weapons compared to Dante.  In terms of Dante's character, it's okay as he is still a big part of the story through the first part of the game, and then you get to play him half the time.  That would be alright with me if Nero also had lots of weapons and stuff, but he doesn't.

Re: What do you think of Nero???

About all the people saying that Devil may cry 2 is after Devil may cry 4. i Honestly think you are very wrong.

First off Dante looks older and different in the fourth and if you compare DMC1 and DMC2 Dante they look a LOT alike.

Second in the ending of the second one you hear the motorcycle in the background yada yada yada he's back.

Third. Lets forget about the second one, it makes me want to slit my wrists and cry myself to sleep.

Fourth.... I can't see Capcom doing this. That would leave HUGE plot holes... and would be stupid it would not make any sense at all.

Then again CRapcom did screw up the megaman battle network series....

    Alsooo.....

I love Nero. In fact i was getting a little bored with Dante after devil may cry 3... same old Dante with same old ebony and ivory...... made by that one women in  the book... i forgot her name anyone wanna remind me please?

Nero is different. His character is pure and deep and we still don't know much about him. Also anyone have proof on where Nero came from and what he exactly is? i know he is either the son o-....*spoilers* Nero's gun indeed SUCKS it sucks BAD. I maxed out everything for red queen and i love to rev up the handle. Score some massive combos with devil bringer.....

First, the graphics have changed and they decided to make him look better. Also he might had a shave before starting DMC2.

Second, yeah we hear it, and this means that we will have a sequel of DMC2(with Dante having a better attitude).

Third, the second lacks the great plot that we are used to with the DMC series. But this does not mean it wasn't good. I'm sure that when u played it for the first time u said "AWESOME".

Fourth,it was the best idea that Capcom had.Now they can make sequels of DMC4 and prequels of DMC2 without problem. Which means 1 or 2 more games before making a sequel of DMC2.

...what megaman has to do with DMC???

    Alsooo...

I find Nero a bit... EMO. He is always crying (3,4 times in the game), he is always moody and he is a bit suicidal(A big red demon... ATTAAAAACK!!!!). He always says"more demons" when he sees one and reminds a little of Lady in DMC3.

But I will agree in smt. Where is Nero coming from? There is no clear mention about his identity(son, brother, cousin, reincarnation, just a lucky guy).WTF!

Re: What do you think of Nero???

I agree, they added Nero, yet haven't explained his story.  There is a mention that he is connected to Sparda, but it isn't explained how.  Other than that, he's just a guy who somehow got the DB, then his would-be girlfriend got kidnapped, blah, it's pretty tired.  I would have loved it if half way through the game, Vergil is BORN from inside Nero, which means Nero exploded and is replaced by Vergil.  Sweet.  And then vergil has 6 fighting styles and 10 weapons ^_^

from my recent reaserch i dont think nero will be the main character of the game.Dante is the main character only that nero will have to be controlled by players in order to keep things in balance.I believe u must have played (soul reaver, the legacy of kain) and (resident evil 4)dat is ow dmc4 will look like in terms of controllin the characters especially like(soul reaver).
