Have a question about DMC3? Ask here please :)

It seems that this forum has quite a lot of threads in which the main discussion is around one question about the game. Most of the time people just need a little help not a whole discussion. I thought it would be a lot nicer to have just this one thread in which people will post their questions and wait for an answer. It would be even better it this would be stickied and people that know stuff about DMC3 will check it out and help those in need. There would not be any need for a new thread for each question since this one would be frequently checked by other users.

On topic: I have a question. I never used Royal Guard (well, once and noobishly decided it sucked) and I was wondering: after you upgrate the style at max you can block things without taking damage, right? But does this have to be a calculated block or you can block not exactly before the attack gets you but, lets say, 1 second earlier? Basically can anyone tell me more about Royal Guard upgrated at max?

Re: Have a question about DMC3? Ask here please :)

With the royal guard style you can block anything that can cause damage, yeah, everything!!!! You just require good timing!!

What you get for each level:

LV1: block, lv1 charge and release(while standing on the ground only)

LV2: air block, lv2 charge and release

LV3: Ultima, lv3 charge and release

    1: the normal block

can even be preformed on lv1 royal guard. Hold down your block button to reduce the damage you take, but you can still knocked     down by a strong attack.

    2: timed block

You can reduce the damage you take to press the block button short before you get hit. You'll only loose almost no health, and you can't be beaten down either, and also your rage meter fills up, and the style.

    3: perfect block

Probably the most difficult block in DMC3. You have to press the block button when you get hit. This require a good timing, but you'll gain even more style, the rage meter fills up more quickly, you'll loose no health, and you enemy get thrown back too.

    4: Ultima

A special technique you get by becoming a lv3 Royal guard. You have to lock on an enemy, press the analog stick away from the enemy and press the style button(and keep holding it). Dante will build up a yellow shield in front of him, you can block some attacks with(mainly long-range attacks). The great advantage is, you don't need good timing, and you'll get health for everything you block. The disadvantage is, you don't fill your rage meter, you can't move, and you can still get attacked from the remaning sides.

     Release

One of the most powerfull attacks in DMC3 is the royal guard only release.

The release can be preformed in 2 different ways:

1: To preform a release, you have to lock on the enemy and push the analog stick to the enemy, and press the style button.

2: You have to press exactly the same things as before, but again shortly before a enemy hits you. This will cause a release, which goes much further and which inflicts more damage.

To cause the maximum damage, you have to fill up the so-called rage meter.

    Rage meter:

     IceCreamMouth wrote

Check the left corner of your lifebar. See those green circles? The ones that indicates your style level? It also doubles as a RAGE meter for the Royalguard Style.

It's dark when you haven't blocked sucessfully very much and your Release attack won't do much damage. It's blinking when you've sucessfully blocked a good amount of attacks and your Release attack would do a good amount of damage. Finally, it's glowing bright when you have sucessfully blocked a lot of attacks and your Release attack would do some major damage.

I posted everything I know, to answer maybe all royalguard questions ^^

(I know, my english sucks, but maybe I could help you a little)

Re: Have a question about DMC3? Ask here please :)

No, you can block any attack (melee and projectiles) with perfect timing and never take any damage even in Royalguard level 1. Your block has to be exactly the monent when the attack or projectile comes in contact with Dante. Note that you can immediately block again after your first one so do so if you need to.

Leveling up increases the amount of attack damage you can absorb and fire back to your enemies with the release attack. You can check the amount of attack damage you've absorb by looking at the upper-left corner of your lifebar. That is called your rage meter. An orb not lit up that means it's empty, when it's blinking on and off that means it's filled up, and when it's glowing bright that means it's full.

You'll also aquire an aerial block and aerial release as you level up. The aerial block can give you an edge to time your blocks coming from above more accurately.

Finally, you'll get a style move where Dante can summon a small energy sheild in front of him which will turn the attack damage it absorbed into Dante's vitality. It's not very useful because it only covers a small area in front of Dante, but it really works against Creberus' forward dash attack very well upon my own discovery.

Wow, thank you guys, you certainly cleared things up. So it does have to be timed. I really suck at that....meh, Genji gave me trouble. But if I'll have some free time I may try to level up royal guard, you made it sound cool and intriguing.

Maybe this will help. I got most of the timing by listening to sound alone.

Do you realize that everytime a Hell Pride attacks it first gives out a long yell before it strikes you with it's syche? Listen very carefully, the exact moment the yell ends the Hell Pride attacks. Wait for the ending note of the yell and immediately press the O button, then you'll definitely block the entire attack without taking any damage!

The same goes with the rest of the Hells; Hell Lusts will strike Dante at the very end of their laugh, Hell Sloths will strike Dante at the very end of their teleport sound effect after yelling, Hell Wraths blow themselves up one second after yelling loudly and so on.

I recommend practicing your blocks against the Hell Vanguard because of it's slow and predictable syche swings.

Re: Have a question about DMC3? Ask here please :)

I appreciate this EasternRat, thanks for that. I guess I should make this topic a sticky, because it is a help topic, and therefore should be a sticky, and it will remain on the Top of page one of this thread forever, so it makes it so everyone can see it. And plus it helps all the people who have trouble navigating through this specific type of Forum. Because lets face it, this is a lot different to what you get on VBulletin or something isn't it?

Sure, we are going to get new threads, but, you know, I would merge the posts, so that it all stays in one thread, I can face that some people are going to make mistakes and create new threads.

So anyway, thanks again, and I am going to sticky this thread now. :))

I am sorry, I seem to not be able to fully understand your question. You want to know how to perform some melee move/combo, right? Well, please specify for which devil arm it is and how it looks when performed....or, if you say you 'heard' about it, tell us at least how it sounds. With all this that you provided I for one cannot help you.

Re: Have a question about DMC3? Ask here please :)

As far as I know you can't do Vergil's super Judgment Cut when playing with him. Plus it wouldn't be fair, now would it? Vergil disappears, judgment cuts appear all over the place, style rises like crazy and Vergil doesn't take any damage. This would have been so abused.

Use trickster a lot against bosses, the more you use it when fighting a boss the more style points you earn I think. I mean, one time I needed around 7,000 more points to level up Trickster, and all I did was use it constantly against Agni and Rudra and WHOOMPH Level up!

Re: Have a question about DMC3? Ask here please :)

    Dearest DMC3 players.

I am also new to DMC. I play the PC version.

I am trying to learn how to do all the combos. But other than Combo 1 and 2, I can't seem to do High Tide.

It's supposed to be Lock - On + forward + sword, right?

    I never got it.

    Please help.

    THanks.

Re: Have a question about DMC3? Ask here please :)

High time is actually performed like this: Lock-on + Back on the left analog stick+sword.

The one you are trying to do is the Stinger move, which you have to buy first before you can use it.

Welcome to Sons of Sparda and enjoy the game :)
