well i havn't played DMC3 but in DMC2 u get much more DT than DMC1,

Alaster is my friend. Lighting is my Best friend. Alaster for sure.

I always used a mixture of both. I would do normal attacks with Alastor and then turn DT with Ifrit to open up a fury of hellfire punching. One thing that I would do also is Stinger someone and then switch the Ifrit to punch them in the face even though I know it takes a few seconds but it was fast enough.

Alastor is the best. The only enemy its not good is for the electric bats. I find Ifrit too slow.

Ifrit can be fast, if you use it right. Personally, I think Sparda owns both, but if I had to choose I'd choose Alastor. REALLY helped when I had to escape Mallet Island. But Force Edge actually did me good. Ifrit's ok. Not great, but good.

I admit, Ifrit can be fast, but only when your in DT mode and you have bought an ability for them. Otherwise, its slow as Hell.
