The hardest boss for me in DMC1 was the Nightmare.  Especially his third encounter since he had those new attacks, and Trish was bugging you at the same time.  I could never get a specific attack pattern down for him.  I kept mixing it up each time I fought it.  I eventually used a few Untouchables on it in DMD mode.  Ifrit's Inferno attack was also especially helpful.

Yeah, and if you had that move when you jumped and your body turned to flame it could sometimes deflect that thing that starts flying around that came off of Nightmare.

The easiest way i found to beat nightmare was by using inferno to take half its life away, then get swallowed for the first time to beat nelo angelo, then for its alst bit of life i used an untouchable with inferno again to finally destroy it, it was the most annoying boss in my opinion but not the hardest. The hardest boss is either nelo angelo on super dante mode in dmc1 or the third time you play vergil on dmd mode on dmc 3, he was brick and took a fair few times to beat him.

 Even as a child i had powers!! Theres demonic blood in me!!

I think that beowulf is the hardest boss

the hardest bosses 2 me were Dmc1= Nelo Angelo the last time u fite him on dmd mode. he WHOOPED my ass everytime. Dmc2= dont really have a hard boss. it wuz pretty easy 4 me. Dmc3=Vergil mission 20 on dmd mode WITHOUT A DOUBT. but i love fightn him. Dmc4=eh everything wuz pretty easy.

I have to say that the Sons of Sparda are the most difficult bosses in the entire DmC series.

The Nightmare was tough, and Bolverk was cheap, but Vergil in DmC3 and Dante in DmC4 are quite challenging in your final battles against them.

Ugh I can go through a list of bosses from all the games. But I think the ones I had the hardest time with were as follows;

 1. Nelo Angelo

 2. Vergil (final fight)

 3. That horse thing from DMC3

 4. Nightmare <_<;

 
Beowulf gave me problems too. I was swearing at the screen from 10 until midnight. XD
