Valez Forrest, Southwest of Serena and Vergil’s Location

    Capt. Stakes: Hold your fire!

[The large spider on it’s back curled it’s legs within itself, a few seconds later it crumbled to earth in a large pile. He waited another few seconds before giving the clear, the BlackGuard approached the dirt pile and relaxed. Besides this demon, and a few others, they hadn’t encountered much resistance. It was then he decided to make camp here for a while before moving on.]

Capt. Stakes: Any word yet on the others?

Comms: Unit Delta has meet with some difficulty, but managed to get through. Unit Gamma is on it’s way to our location in two hours. Still no word from Unit Beta sir…

Capt. Stakes: Lady D and Sparda’s Son…Keep monitoring, and tell Unit Gamma that we will be here for another hour, they better double their pace. [Taking a cigar in his mouth] Get some rest as much as you can boys, we are going to need as much of it as possible. [Taking note of the forest carefully.]

    ************************************************** *****
    Valez Mountains, Inside the Island

Vergil: [weakling] Where are we going?

Serena: We need to get out of here and rest!

    Vergil: No!

Serena: We are in no condition to fight Vergil!

[Vergil struggled under Serena’s grasp, but she was stronger even in her state. She pulled him onward through the tunnel till they reached a rock cliff overlooking the forest. Serena laid Vergil against a boulder removing his tattered coat and shirt, he watched Serena looked around the rock cliff, desperately looking for plant life. Surprisingly she found what she needed, chewing the plant in her mouth, kneeling next to him she applied the chewed muck onto his wounds. Slightly he felt better, whatever she was chewing in her mouth, helped ease the pain and healing. Then without hesitating, she removed her jacket, applying the medicine to the wounds on her arms and shoulders. Vergil looked on not saying a word. When she was about to remove her vest she stopped when she noticed him watching. Only partly opening her vest she placed the rest of the mush on the hole in her stomach. Exhausted, she slowly rest against the boulder facing away from Vergil. Save for the wind blowing, all that was heard was their breathing for a moment. ]

Vergil: …Tell me about my father…

    Serena: Why?

Vergil: You trained with my father for one hundred years. As far as I can tell, you’re the only one who has known him for so long, save for a few number of others, including your father.

Serena: [laughing] That’s funny, coming from you. I thought Sparda would have spent more time with his son.

    Vergil: I didn’t know him. He died. …Before I was born…

Serena:  Truth is, I never knew him that well myself…He was like you in a way…

    Vergil: …

Serena: At times he was... cruel, sometimes heartless. But that was only expected of him as a teacher. He was a great man, full of pride and honor. A good person…

Vergil: You loved him didn’t you?

Serena: … He was much a father to me, as my real father is… I loved him a lot, because of him I’m not afraid, afraid to be on my own. To protect myself… [Thinking about Serenity] and…

    Vergil: I see…[closing his eyes] I think we’ll finish this discussion another time…I’m tired…

[They rested against the boulder not another word being said. Quietly they listened to one another’s breathing, soon matching pace. Another minute later, they were asleep.]

    ************************************************** *****
Valez Forrest, Road to Queen’s Castle

Russo: Interesting…your father Kagan. I think Queen will be most interested in what he has been up to.

Rouge: Why would this…”Queen” be interested in my father?

Russo: [Smile] There is much you don’t know.

Mistress Jade: Don’t worry, everything will all be explained.

[As Ferril and Rouge exchanged a look, the carriage jutted to a halt. ]

    Mistress Jade: What!?

[Russo Exited the carriage, followed by Ferril. Two carriages down, Vermin was fighting with anther werewolf, though Vermin had the upper hand. With his sharp claws, he ripped open his opponent’s throat.  As the other died, his closed fist opened up, revealing familiar pink capsules. Vermin instantly lapped up the pills, sitting back, relieved.]

Mistress Jade: Vermin! [Looking into the wrecked bloody carriage.] What have you done?

Vermin: [Crawling on his knees, transforming back into human form.] I-I can’t help it! The pain…it’s too much! These bastards…[kicking the dead lycan] they were hoarding! [Hugging his stomach] Please, I know you have more! It hurts!

Ferril: [Walking up next to Mistress Jade, unsheathing Yamato] Do you want me to take care of this?

Mistress Jade: No…I have something else in mind. [Pulling out a bottle. Inside, black capsules floated in a clear solution.] You want more? [Grabbing his throat, forcing Vermin’s mouth open.] Take all that you want! Here’s a new batch that Xerxes made. Let’s see what an overdose does!

[Vermin gagged, allowing her to force-feed him the new version of the drug. His eyes dilated, Vermin fell into a fetal position, spasming and foaming at the mouth. Russo knelt down, watching the pain in Vermin’s eyes as his body slowly stilled.]

Russo: A pity…I would have liked to kill him. He seemed like an worthy challenge…

[Just a mile off in a tree, two BlackGuards watched as the carriages left the bodies and the wrecked one in their wake.]

BlackGuard1: [Lowering his binoculars] Well what do you think?

Blackguard2: I say we have a real good opportunity here.

BlackGuard1: What about regrouping with the rest of the Unit?

BlackGuard2: What? You don’t think we can take them? We been up against worst and you know it. Besides, we don’t know where the Captin and the other two units are. And to be frank, I’d like to show up that tight-ass and ***.

BlackGuard1: If you ask me, this who thing is a waste of our time. Why are we even involved? It’s just between a bunch of mutts and suckers...  Alight, I’m in. Lets tell the others.

    Valez Mountains, Inside the Island

[Serena slept peaceful unaware of Vergil standing over her gazing down at her sleeping body. There was a small smile across her face; he could tell that she was dreaming peacefully. As another draft blew by, a few strands of Serena’s hair landed across her face. Brushing them aside, he couldn’t help but notice her vest still partly open... Quickly he looked across the horizon scanning the land, below was a forest, with a low fog embedded deep into the land. In the middle a vast calm lake lay, reflecting the dull gray sky, at the edge of the lake stood a large castle with long sharp steeples reaching high above the fog. Of course that was where Mistress Jade was heading. He knew it. ]

Brozen: [Looking down, bleeding from his wounds.] ….Ohhoowaalll…….!!!!

[He leapt, aiming his lower legs like a spear towards Vergil claws ready. They made contact taking half the cliff with them, awakened Serena watched as the rock faces slid down the side of the mountain.]

    Serena: Vergil!

    ************************************************** *****
Inside the Island, Base of Valez Mountains

[Carefully Serena climbed down the rockslide landing in a dust cloud. It didn’t take her long to spot Vergil standing on top of Brozen with his foot pining the demon’s head to the ground. ]

Vergil: [Looking down at Brozen intensely] Your power…I can feel it…

[Brozen thrashed about, his tail striking repeatedly at Vergil’s back leaving deep gashes; but Vergil ignored the pain. He ignored his human side entirely. Something called into Vergil, something dark…digging his fist into Brozen’s chest, Vergil let it flow… Power…Holding tightly he clamped Brozen’s soul, pulling it from his weaken body. ]

Brozen: I knew it…It could only be…The Demon Who Turned His Back it could only be he…

[In his fist, Vergil felt it...power.  Holding it high, he embraced it…]

Brozen: Fool! Did you think it would be so easy!?  I tell you this…you may have my power. But in the end, you will die!

[From the tips of his toes to his knees Vergil couldn’t move. His legs burned, buried naked in ice. Screaming his body rose into the air, the ice around his legs shattering. Landing to the ground softly, he tried them out. Digging the chrome blue claws into the earth, with a metal clank he slammed his right foot into the ground. Lifting his left foot high in the air, he slammed it to the earth, a wave of ice and blue flame knocking down trees.  It was like running on air but it wasn’t the agility, it was the strength and power! A real demon! He stood there looking into the sky, laughing. Serena watched feeling a pain in her heart for an unknown reason.]

    Serena:…

    ************************************************** *****
Valez Forrest, Road to Queen’s Castle

Russo: [Holding Yamato] Remarkable…In all my long years…May I add this to my collection?

Ferril: Ha! Fat chance ***. [Snatching the sword away.] I took it fair and square.

Russo: Hmph, a pity. Oh well.

Mistress Jade: How is her majesty?

Russo: Impatient as ever…you know how long she has been waiting…suffering…

Mistress Jade: We all have our share of suffering…[touching her face]

[Suddenly the entire carriage toppled over stopping the entire caravan. Another explosion, the rear carriage burst into flame; from the trees gunfire erupted, blasting holes into the sides. Some tried to escape but were mowed down by bullets. ]

Ferril: What the *** is this!? A ***ing ambush!

    Russo: I underestimated the humans….

Ferril: I think this is a little more than underestimating them!

[The BlackGuard didn’t let up with their attack filling the carriages with holes, killing anyone who dared tired to escape. Then from the front carriage a person dressed in red armor appeared. Baffled as to why he didn’t fall when they fired upon him, the unit stopped firing. That was their mistake…]

    ************************************************** *****
    Valez Forrest

Capt. Stakes: Hold it! Quiet! …

[An explosion was heard, along with gunfire….the missing unit.]

Capt. Stakes: That way! Let’s get going!

[They didn’t run far when laughter was heard in the trees…woman’s laughter. Not even laughter….but cackling…stopping, Capt. Stakes ordered his men to spread out. Taking cover, all around the laughter could be heard, growing closer. Straining through their goggles, some of the BlackGuard tried to find the sources, but it was useless. Then…another sound could be heard…the sound of sharp metal clanking together. ]

     ************************************************** *****
Valez Forrest, Road to Queen’s Castle

Russo: [Holding a BlackGuard rifle] The weapons of man truly have advanced…

[The armored men put up a decent struggle, but still were no match for the ancient warrior. The few lycans and vampires that survived the ambush raided the bodies for their advanced weapons and gear, some feasted on the dead bodies for they had not feed in some time. Russo did leave one alive barely so that Mistress Jade could get some answerers.]

Mistress Jade: So, Brimstone is stupid enough to come even here. Tell me, [Stroking the bleeding soldier’s cheek, he reeled back as she pressed her scared face close to his.] Are there more of you? [Jamming her sharp nail thumb into his cheek.]

[Meanwhile Serenity came to, having been knocked unconscious during the ambush. It seemed they had forgotten her at the moment. She found herself still in the tumbled carriage laying on her side; setting herself up she peeked through a hole to see Mistress Jade slash open a BlackGuard’s throat with her nails. Then with her bloody nails she gave orders to get moving again. Quickly Serenity looked around for something to free herself, that’s when she spotted Kiyoshi under the seat. Reaching with her foot she pulled the blade loose from it’s sheath, cutting loose her bonds. Crawling out through the back window she made a mad dash through the forest.

Ferril: [Landing in front of Serenity] And where hell do you think your going?!

Serenity: [Holding up Kiyoshi] Get out of my way! Now!

Ferril: Ha Ha, Little runt wants to play with swords huh? Well…fine by me.

[With lighting speed Ferril rushed past Serenity, taking a swing at her with Yamato, Kiyoshi intercepted the attack, showering sparks. Coming around again, Ferril jumped high with a powerful downward slash. Serenity kicked her in the side and shin, driving Kiyoshi into empty ground. Ferril had rolled to the side cutting Serenity in the arm, forcing her to let go of Kiyoshi. ]

Ferril: Not bad for a half-breed! [Kicking her in the side.] But not good enough!

Rouge: [Walking up next to Ferril] Really Ferril you must learn how to be more gentle…[Picking up Kiyoshi] Isn’t this her sister’s sword?

Russo: Sister? Ah…yes...she did smell just like you. I wonder if you taste like her..

Serenity: [Coughing] W-what are you talking about?….What did you do to her!?

Russo: Nothing, but I’m sure Brozen is now feasting on her bones, along with that boy.

    Serenity: You lie!

Russo: [Grabbing her wrist, twisting] Oh no my dear. I do not lie…And soon, you will share their fate as well.

    Valez Forrest

    Vergil: This way…

[Serena followed Vergil silently, her senses were useless for some reason in this forest, but Vergil, he knew where they were going. Maybe because it was the strong demonic power pulling at his devil side, or the desire to reclaim his sword and amulet; part of her wanted to believe that it was the desire to rescue her father and sister but it was something else…Vergil stopped looking over at the ruins of what looked like a tomb or shrine. A statue of a priestess holding a chalice to the sky was atop with kneeling angels at her feet, time and weather had worn away at the stone, vines overgrowing out of cracks and crevices. Serena looked at the remains of the priestess face, how sad she almost appeared…She caught scent of something familiar, but tainted, Vergil dodged a flying stone smashing into the side of the monument. Standing atop a hill was a creature that almost resembled a human, though altered. It’s maroon skin stretch tightly around it’s body as air filled the beasts lungs. Foam dribbled from the corner of it’s mouth, showing sharp cracked teeth.]

    Serena: Ericks?

[Vermin or what was him, leapt towards Vergil and Serena landing between them. With a large backhand he knocked Serena against a tree then turned his attention on Vergil, who took a defensive stance waiting for Vermin to attack. He was fast, faster than normal slashing at Vergil’s face and body with sharp nails. Vergil blocked, kicking Vermin hard into the side, blood coated the tips of the claws on Brozen. ]

Vergil: [Smirking, taunting Vermin] Come on …I’ve been waiting to test out my new power.

Vermin: [Crackled tone] VERGIL….![Tilting back his head, howling into the cloudy sky.]

    **************************************************************

      Valez Forrest

[Another black cloak floated by swing a large scythe at the head of a BlackGuard who ducked firing at the demon, but he didn’t see the one behind him waiting with a large pair of scissors… Capt. Stakes fired at one, but it zipped past the bullets with ease. Suddenly an unearthly roar stopped the fighting, even the demons themselves stopped to listen to the new sound. Capt. Stakes took the opportunity to shoot the demon straight in the face. It shrieked in surprise as it’s mask shattered, the cloak breaking apart into nothing. ]

BlackGuard: What the hell do you suppose that was sir? [Shooting a demon in the mask, taking a que from his leader.]

    Capt. Stakes: I don’t know…

    **************************************************************

      Valez Forrest

[Vergil stared across from Vermin panting and sweating. Vermin did not looked fatigued at all, but Vergil…something was wrong. Vermin charged again, tackling Vergil into the shrine breaking through. Rolling away from each other they were ready to go at it again when Serena kicked Vermin in the side of the face. The force of the kick knocked him back into the monument, causing it to cave in on itself.]

Vergil: Stay out of this! He’s mine!

[A chunk of stone hurled towards Vergil, who deflected it with a swift kick. Vermin tossed another chunk, followed by another. Vergil wasn’t there, but high in the air heading toward Vermin like a bullet. The ground rumbled violently from the impact. Ice crusted around the crater, glowing a dull blue. Staggering from the crater Vergil wearily collapsed to ground. Serena rushed up; he was pale and flushed, as if the life was drained from his body. ]

    Vermin: VERGIL….!

[Serena turned to see Vermin glaring at her foaming and bleeding from the mouth. He started to change before her eyes painfully. Doubling in body size, the skin from his body ripped itself apart, exposing his muscular structure; pours appeared all over as he turned a dark orange tint. His lycan form was more horrific than his mutated human form. Serena, too shocked to move couldn’t avoid his huge claw cutting deep in her chest. She rolled to the ground smashing into a tree holding her wound. She watched on as Vermin knocked Vergil about, playing with him like a cat would play with it’s meal before the kill. Vergil was far too weak, unable to defend himself. ]

    Serena: ....No…no!

[She could not bear to watch anymore, that side of her that she suppressed for so long started to take over; and she didn’t stop it, letting out a sharp howl high into the sky. Vermin dropped the body of Vergil looking to Serena. Something spoke to Vergil’s mind, telling him to open his eyes and watch... Vermin was locked in combat with a werewolf, though compared to his monstrous size, they were clearly outmatched; but they didn’t quit. The lycan used its agility to evade most of Vermin’s attack, taking a few bites; spotting an opening they lunged for his throat, biting down tight. Vermin yelped and howled, clawing the lycan, before smashing it again and again into the stone rubble. It worked, but at the cost of his throat. Vermin staggered, holding his wounded neck, gargling out blood. Vergil watched him collapsed to his knees. Before falling into darkness, the lycan limped over, pressing it’s cold wet nose against his face whimpering. ]

    Re: Twenty-Nine

Yeah, I thought it was about time as well. I'm finishing up chapter 30 And I hope to at least have it finished around chapter 40. I mean I really didn't expect it to get this long, but then alot of chapters are shorter than others. I forgot all about the whose who and whats what section..I'll put that up soon since I have all the characters worked out. When I finish Chapter 30 I'm going to go ahead and set it up in Parts and post it on Devil's Lair.org since they do have a fanfiction sec.  and I really haven't seen any new fanfiction in a while.

And for future fanfics I have no intention of really putting Nero in any until I finally get a 360 or PS3 and play DMC4, and I'll wait till DMC5 comes out or working in development.

      Valez Forrest

[Finally the fire died after another bucket of water was thrown on the pile, the smell of the dead that burned still filled the lungs of Captain stakes and the rest of the BlackGuard. The armor of his former soldiers withstood the intense heat of the pyre much to his surprise. He had to hand it to the people of Brimstone; whoever made their armor knew what they were doing. Still, it didn’t help his people from being massacred. From the wreckage of the carriages, they still did a crushing blow to Mistress Jade, half her force had just been removed; his trackers concluded that at least two horse-drawn carriages survived, leaving a few people walking on foot. Most likely her lackeys…]

Captain Stakes: Good work men…though you were still fools to attack without us. Brave, but wreck less…

BlackGuard2: [Rushing up to Captain stakes] Sir! Scouts have confirmed a village four miles away with the target arriving within minutes!

Captain Stakes: Then we have some ground to cover don’t we? [Shouting out to the rest of the BlackGuard] Ok men! It’s time to step to it!  Let’s get a move on before we miss the action!

    *******************************************************
    Kalla Village

[Vergil awakened to the smell of meat cooking. Opening his eyes he looked about to find himself in a small room of a cottage. Neatly at the foot of his bed were clothes hand sewn. Putting on the brown tunic and pants, Vergil looked around for Brozen. The Devil Arm was nowhere to be seen, cautiously he peeked through the door to find an old woman squatting never a fire cooking. As he enters, she turns towards him with a simple smile, holding out a plate of greasy gray meat. Reluctantly he picked up a piece, taking it into his mouth chewing on the sweet meat. The hag shows yellow crooked teeth as Vergil took another bite, swallowing it whole.]

    Vergil: Thank you…

[Not knowing what else to say. The old hag seemed to understand, with a hideous smile. Finishing off the meal, he set the plate down on a table and headed outside. Scattered about were simple huts, constructed from the same dark wood of the forest. Busy about daily chores people would stop to look at the silver-haired stranger, some with awe while others looked at Vergil with a bit of contempt. The sky, though still cloudy appeared lighter than usual, a few dark patches of gray swirled about. A group of children who were running around playing stopped in their tracks as he approached, he regarded them as much as they studied him with curious look in their eyes. Within a moment they ran off, one stayed a while longer looking at him before joining his playmates. Coming to what could only be the town center, was a statue of a female warrior holding a staff to the sky; her features resembled Serena almost…]

    Serena: Vergil…

[She stood at the base talking with an elderly man hunched over from age. Dressed in a simple gown, Serena had a glow of natural beauty he saw at Serenity’s party. With her hair braided and small blue and white flowers interlaced in, her look came off as a fair maiden. The look he gave her. The old man who clearly appeared to be the village elder spoke in a language foreign to him.]

Serena: He says he is glad that you have recovered so quickly. You have the blood of a strong devil in your veins.

Vergil: How long was I out?

Serena: Three hours. Brozen’s power drained you to the brink of death. Luckily, I got you here in time for Ci`eriff [Indicating to the elder] To remove the Devil Arm and heal you.

    Vergil: Where are we?

Serena: This is the village of Kalla, these people are the descendants of slaves who were brought here to serve Queen.

    Vergil: Queen?

Serena: That is what they call her. A powerful mage imprisoned in the castle at the edge of Valez Lake. My mother cursed her soul to a void, never to die or live, but trapped in timeless limbo towards the end of the Mage Wars. This statue was created in her honor for freeing them from servitude. But now…

Vergil: Now it seems that this Queen is trying to break the curse.

Serena: [Nodding] I think I know how. My mother was a skilled Sage, the cruse she used required a blood seal, which she used with her own blood. That’s how Mistress Jade is going to free her.

Vergil: But how can she use your mother’s blood if she is dead, and your right here….

Serena: Serenity…My blood is useless because I was born a full-blooded Lycan, my mother placed the spell on Queen before my father turned her. Serenity is only half. Part of her is still human. That’s the part that Queen needs.

Vergil: And since Serenity is descended from your mother’s family line, she can break the curse…

[Horses whined in the distance; causing the Elder great distress. Urging Serenity and Vergil to one of the houses, he closed the door shut. The two watched as the old man hobbled back to the town center, horse-drawn carriages approaching; followed by vampire and lycans armed on foot. Stepping from the front carriage, Russo appeared, still garbed in the red armor looking down at the old man.]

    Vergil: Russo…

[Speaking to the old man with quick urgency, he stopped; looking around with a curiously strange smile. The elder’s body slumped to the ground while Russo licked the blood clean from his fingers.]

Russo: I do think that you two should come on out before anyone else gets hurt. [Shouting out to nobody, thought Serena and Vergil knew whom he was referring to.] You don’t think that I could smell you two?

Mistress Jade: [Speaking from inside the carriage] What is the meaning of this Russo? We are wasting time! We are almost there, why did we bother coming here in the first place? Those low-life scums can walk! They have for the last four miles!

Russo: But my dear Mistress, I thought that the lovely Serenity and mighty Solomon would like to be reunited with one of their blood…

Mistress Jade: What are you talking about?

Russo: His daughter and her sister is here in this very village. [Shouting out again] Isn’t that right?

    Serenity: Vergil!...Serena…[Shouting from with inside.]

[Her cries where muffed by the sound of someone striking her across the face.]

    Ferril: Silence you little ***!

[Vergil emerged from the hut as Serena followed in tow. Staring over at Russo from afar, he gave them a grin, followed by applauding]

Russo: Very good! Very Good indeed! You two made it this far armed only with your bare fists! I am very impressed!

Vergil: I wasn’t only armed with my firsts. Though you took away my weapon, I was able to acquire a new one.

Russo: Really? Where is it? I would really like to see this new “weapon” you speak of.

Vergil: Unfortunately it is not in my possession. However, that’s ok I will not need them to take care of you.

    Russo: Hmph…is that so?

Mistress Jade: I’m done waiting! [Emerging from the carriage staring over at the Vergil and Serena] Russo you should have taken care of these two instead of toy with them!

[Snapping her fingers, a glowing orb emerges from the ground hovering in the air.]

Mistress Jade: [Re-entering the carriage] Come Russo! Queen waits!

[The caravan heads off, followed by the guards on foot, leaving Serena and Vergil to deal with the creature that Mistress Jade conjured up. As the orb dissipates, a large creature camesinto view, one Serena has seen too many times.]

    Serena: Oh no…

    **************************************************************

    Kalla Village

[Coiling up again the demon watched Serena and Vergil with a stealthy silence. The scales upon its body cooled down to burning coals, the tail shaking stiffly in the air, releasing burning ash upon the huts. The situation was getting worse, unarmed Vergil and Serena could only dodge the fiery attacks of the devil.  Rushing forward with  open jaws the monster missed again, slamming into the ground. Slithering around several more homes, engulfing them in blazing infernos.]

Vergil: This is ridiculous…huh? What’s that? [Feeling a cool aura of power, he ran off through two fiery ruins.]

    Serena: Vergil! [Running after him.]

[Seeing Vergil, then Serena, the demon went for her. Rolling to the side, Serena felt the intense heat as the massive body plowed into the ground next to her, slithering off. She flipped onto her feet ready to follow after Vergil, when she heard a boy scream. No more than a teenager, he cowered on the ground, clutching a small wooden box. The devil had seen him running; something easier to catch…the boy screamed again as the demon towered before him, rearing back. A blue blur, slammed into the side of the beast’s head, sending it flying into a ruin with a thunderous impact.]

[Vergil landed on the ground, digging the newly polished claws of Brozen into the earth. Script, inscribed with runes along both sides of the legs, glowed white. The power had been controlled…No resistance when he tapped into Brozen’s strength. A thin smile crept along Vergil’s face.]

Vergil: This might just be fun…

[Rising from the ashes, the monster came to its senses, looking at Vergil with such malice. Bullets with high accuracy pelted its body from different points. Curling up in pain, it screeched out. BlackGuard troops emerged from everywhere, firing burst of ammunition to keep the monster at bay, but not effective enough…shaking it’s tail high in the air like a rattle, burning ash coated the air...]

BlackGuard Solider: Get back! Get back!

[As the gunfire ceased, it looked for an opening, so did Vergil… Icy flame pierced the scaly flesh; steam, and boiling blood spewed out, the fiery phantom sword burned a bright azure before burring out. Stunned, the wounded monster landed onto the ground rolling on it’s back exposed.]

Capt. Stakes: That’s our opening! Grenades!

[Three men ran up, each tossing in two black egg-shaped remotes into the wound. Scattering as each one hit home; noticing the teenage boy watching in awe, Vergil jumped on top of him, just as the grenades detonated.]

[A bright flash red as blood blinded those unable to shield their eyes. Smoking flesh and warming blood rained down. The remains of beast wriggled about in final spasms of death. Vergil got to his feet, looking down at the boy, then at the massive corpse. Trudging off, Vergil flicked away the flesh.]

Vergil: Your timing was impeccable Captain. [Pulling back his hair, shaking out any remains of gore.]

Capt. Stakes: Sorry to take so long. The road was most harsh, [Yelling out to his men.] Contain those fires! Get everyone to a safe location! Double Time!

    **************************************************************

Kalla Village - Twenty Minutes later…

[Gathering, Serena, Vergil, Capt. Stakes, and two other BlackGuard, assessed the situation so far. Most of the fires were contained and some extinguished. Everywhere ruins of people’s lives scattered about. There were an unfortunate number who did not manage to escape in time..]

BlackGuard1: There are places still burning hot sir, and a good number of injured.

BlackGuard2: That’s just half the problem. We got movement to the east and south from the forest. Large, mean and I don’t think friendly.

Serena: I have to get to my father and sister!

Vergil: I’ll go with Serena, [Looking to Capt. Stakes.] protect these people.

Capt. Stakes: [Nodding] It will be dangerous, but I don’t think that will be a problem for you two.

[A man holding the reigns of two saddle horses approached, trailing behind was the boy from earlier, still clutching the wooden box. The man only spoke briefly with Serena, before handing her the reigns.]

Serena: [Handing one reign to Vergil, mounting the black mare.] He said that Mistress Jade’s men road off with all the other horses of the stables. They are good animals, young and able.

[Vergil mounted up as his resisted, rearing up, knowing just what his passenger was. The boy walked up to Serena, looking at her with wonderment, before turning away blushing, holding the box up to her.]

Serena: [Taking the box looking down at him] What is this?

Boy: [In his tongue.] It belonged to your mother. I believe that it can help you. I wish you luck.

[She looked at the boy, then the box. Nodding, she smiled at him.]

Capt. Stakes: Serena. [Looking up at her.] Your sister… [Standing to attention] She’s a good solider. Best recruit I had in the BlackGuard. Get her back safely…

    Serena: I will…

[Vergil raced off, with Serena close behind. The teenager waved, but Capt. Stakes took his hand and lowered it.]

Capt. Stakes: You better get to somewhere safe lad. [Listening past the sound of fires burning, or the sound of thunder in the distance.]  We got company…

    **************************************************************

Bridge to Queen’s Castle,  Main Gate.

Rouge: [Looking out the window at the bridge.] Marvelous…the things these humans can create, when properly motivated…

Russo:  Yes. I know…though it seems our kind does not have the capacity to “Motivate” like it was when the true king ruled.

    Ferril: True king?

Russo: Queen’s father. [Looking at the two in disbelief] Don’t you know whom I am talking about? [Looking at Mistress Jade.] Don’t they know?

[Rouge and Ferril looked at each other, then at Mistress Jade…]

Mistress Jade: They do not know their history… That is like that after my generation I’m afraid…young people these days…

Russo: A shame. [Looking to Serenity] Do not worry sweet maiden...Everything will come to an end soon enough. [Looking outside, his face souring as the cart approached the gate.] I better deal with the gatekeeper…

    ***************************

[Ur’Ric let out a belch as loud and foul as any demon could expel in one episode. A moth flew in the path of the belch; a twitching corpse fell to the ground. Ur’Ric reached around the ground for his huge jar, rolling to his side, he found that in fact the jar had long been dry, hours ago.]

Ur’Ric: Damnit! No more! [Rising to a sitting position. The single motion took energy, and caused a massive headache all at the same time.] Owww…….[rubbing his head painfully.] That did not feel great….

Russo: You bloated lazy slop! [Marching towards Ur’Ric with look of fury through his armor mask.] By the hells…Get to you feet! Now!

Ur’Ric:  [Rising to his feet steadily.] Easy there. Easy there. I hear you. [The massive devil towered over Russo, nearly thirty feet tall, everything was big on Ur’Ric…Everything.]

Russo: [Covering his eyes] Gah! Cover yourself! There are women present…

Ur’Ric: Women? You mean that burnt up sack of a hag? [Finding his loin cloth, he pulled it around his waist, looping it in a knot.] I need to get that tailor to add another notch to my belt, this one is getting worn…Where is she? She’s in there isn’t she? [Shouting with a booming voice over Russo.] Where is my Lumly!? You said you were only going to take him to make him better! Where is he?!

Russo: Really! Listen to me you oaf…I have some most troubling news about your dear pet; some very bad people took him captive.

Ur’Ric: What!? [Body fat contained in grayish, rubbery skin, shook like gelatin. Body sweat and grim rained down. Russo created a shield to protect him of the filth.]

Russo: That is not all…[Pointing out to the orange glow in the distance.] They attacked the village and villagers…

[The lose of his dog and friend, instantly shook him from his hangover in an instant. The rage boiled over.]

Russo: They will be here no doubt. [Heading back to the carriage.] Ask them about your Lumly. …Now, open the gate! And don’t let them pass!

[Ur’Ric obeyed, removing the large oak that locked the heavy dark blue doors. With little of no effort, he tossed it aside, letting the caravan pass by. Those on foot looked up at the troll as the anger welled up in him, repeatedly….]
