With the exeption in Mission 22, fight with ether the Alastor or Ifrit or Yamato devilarm and fill your DT gauge. After that, equip the Sparda Sword. Then re-equip ether Alastor or Ifrit or Yamato again, you'll notice that the DT energy you accumulated earlier is gone!

yea, that's gotta be annoying, expesialy if you wanna use nightmare-beta.

Uh... wrong sword Vaserius... close though. We're talking about the Sparda a.k.a. Sparda Sword. It's the true form of the Force Edge and is only available in DMC1. In terms of raw attack strength it is the strongest weapon in DMC1.

You are correct. When you use the legendary dark knight costume you wield the Yamato sword. And yes, the sword turns into the Sparda sword when you DT.

Re: is the sparda sword useless

How can you possibly think the Sparda sword is useless??? It's the game's most powerful weapon in terms of base attack power, and the inability to use DT is solely to offset that advantage.

I noticed that while fighting Phantom once, and it pissed me off because I was low on health and didn't have a Vital Star or any Devil Stars.

Re: is the sparda sword useless

I like using the Sparda sword at three different encounters in DMC.  The first and second are when you face Phantom (as there are 2 different Phantom battles).  In DMD mode your health does not regenerate with the use of DT.  This means dt'ing at all against Phantom doesn't really help.  Using Alastor gives you little advantage with Air Raid, and Ifrit is almost as useless considering it's fire-based (as is Phantom).  One swing with the Sparda sword = three swings with the un-dt'ed Alastor for damage, so this weapon is definitely the best to use against Phantom.  Also, Phantom's attack patterns are easy to spot and counter (mostly with Stinger).  The only way to take down Phantom easily on DMD mode is to keep jumping and slashing at him while stingering to break his fire-ball breath and his fire pillars rising out from under you.  The final encounter involves the Nobody's.  If you stinger a Nobody with the Alastor, it will just smack you down; even a Kick-13 doesn't interrupt their assault.  However, a stinger from the Sparda Sword will knock one over every time.  If you time your stingers right with the Sparda Sword you can go through almost all of Mission 21 with nearly a scratch.

I agree, when used correctly, the Sparda owns all other weapons in the DMC universe in terms of power, and variability in close, medium, and, long ranges.
