Firstly, before I get started, I want to hugely apologize for the major lack of updates here at Sons of Sparda. But hopefully starting now we can finally get the news and updates back on track, huh? So enough of me ranting, lets get to the good stuff:

Devil May Cry 4 reviews have recently been flooding the internet, and what more reliable source than IGN? IGN UK have recently reviewed the newest installment to the Devil May Cry series and have scored it a nice 9/10. Interested in reading the review? Go here, PSU have also reviewed it at a nice score of 8/10.

I am awaiting some video reviews of Devil May Cry 4 to pop-up so I can post them on up too.

Anyway, I plan on scanning the entire "Art of the Devil" book on up and adding those to the Gallery and I also plan to add a lot more things to the gallery. And get it more organized and I plan to allow comments again to be posted, of course, I will moderate the comments to make sure your talking purely about the art and not just having random chats.

Art Woes

Ok guys. It's Dreamer again.

This is not good.

I recently removed a number of peices from the fanart gallery at the request of the artist: and while she had a few reasons for asking me to do so, one large factor was you.

Yes. YOU.

Guys, these artists agree to let us host thier work HERE for your convenience. I go hunting it down so YOU don't have to. All they ask in return is comments.

I can't believe it's gotten this bad: you have turned the artist's comments section into a whole other forum, where you talk about anything EXCEPT the art.

The artists do come to this site. They want to know what you think. They care about your opinion of thier art. So...give them your opinion of thier art. That's IT. Talk about everything else in the forums.

[Edit] Here is what is going to happen: we're cleaning out the fanart section. The files will be backed up and then deleted. Then put back online with clear comment boards.

We're not disabling comments entirely. Not yet. You guys have one chance to shape up.

Come on. I know you can do better then this.

DMC3 Fan Machinima showing at Tales of Anime!

I am pleased to announce that Devil May Cry 3: The Sons of Sparda, is scheduled to be shown at this year's Tales of Anime! The film's quality is absolutely unbelievable...it's pretty much right on par with watching the cutscenes straight from the game on your PS2. Last year's version is almost embarassing compared to how well done the remake is, and I am happy to say that all the fight scenes in the game came out looking very good. One or two could have been a little better, but for the most part, you see a few surprise moves that look extremely awesome.

So, for those of you anywhere near Tyson's Corner in Vienna, Virginia, I would HIGHLY reccomend you visit MAGFest 5.0. It's not just going to rock because of the movie premiering, but because of all the other insanely cool stuff happening throughout the show. A video game rock concert where you can experience the game music of your youth, 24/7 gaming on any system you can imagine (including PC's and Arcades), contests and tournaments, auctions and a lot more. It's a gamer party by fans, for the fans.

As a bonus, I'm pleased to announce that the person who created MAGFest, Brendan Becker, has arranged for a FREE showing of the film to early birds: Get to the hotel at 4 pm on Thursday, January 4th or just before when the lines for registration begin, and you can come watch The Sons of Sparda's first showing without having to register to get in. Then, if you want to stay for the rest, it's only $40 at the door. If you pre-reg now, it's only $35. I alone have to fly out from Cali to make it to the con, so if you have the extra money to blow and come have a good time, it's most definitely worth it. The other scheduled showings of The Sons of Sparda will be on Sunday at 3pm just before the fest ends, and we are also pushing to get a 3rd showing in prior to that during points in which the video room will be open to requests.

If any of you have any questions about the film or the con, please feel free to post in comments and I will address them accordingly. Anyone interested in attending MAGFest, please check out www.magfest.org. Hope to see you at the con!

Oh, and one last tidbit. If any of you are interested in helping design a graphic for the movie flyers I will be posting at the hotel, you can download a PSD of the CG graphic of Dante and Vergil fighting here and use that as your center piece.

DMC3 Machinima Movie Project to Premiere at MAGFest 5

As I am sure some of you noticed, my initial announcement about my Devil May Cry 3 movie project was pulled from the site some months ago, due to unforseen circumstances.

I apologize for leaving you in the dark about the status of the machinima project for so long, but I had to wait until everything was set in stone before I could officially announce that the project is back in action. As of today, pre-production notes and training for the fight scenes has been finished and filming is set to begin by this evening.

To bring everyone up to speed, the DMC3 Machinima - Devil May Cry 3: The Sons of Sparda - is a fanfilm utilizing the game's cutscenes, edited together professionally with select boss fights to create a full length film that tells the story of DMC3 accurately and in roughly 2 hours time. Last year the same project was made under an extremely small budget and over the course of one day for M4 in January 2006, prior to the release of the Special Edition of DMC3. The film was a success and had 4 showings at the 4th Music and Games Festival in Charlottesville, VA, and was well received. Due to the time constraints and small budget however, the film was not quite on par with what I originally had wanted to make, and so the film is being remade to include a variety of customized scenes (don't worry, we haven't changed anything that would add or take away from the game's story) and the special edition cutscenes, as well as far better coordinated boss fights (albeit definitely not as pro as the ones many people have put on the internet), a streamlined editing process, better graphic quality and superb sound.

This time around it's going to better than ever, as I have a larger budget and about 3 - 4 days of filming/capturing time to make everything perfect. The movie is currently set to premiere at MAGFest 5, this coming January 4th - 7th at Tyson's Corner in Vienna, Virginia. For more info on the festival, please be sure to visit www.magfest.org. At this time for technical and semi-legal reasons, I will not plan on releasing the DVD for sale. It is likely that if I do decide to do that at some point, I will have to seek permission from Capcom, whom I thankfully have more than one contact with.

The downside to the movie is that we won't have time to do the fan submitted style and fighting videos as I had originally planned. At this time the project is back to its grass roots, which is the movie itself, scene selection and possibly a special feature or two if time permits. For those of you who can make it out to MAGFest or are near the area, I highly encourage you to come out, not just for the movie, but because it's a great place to meet and play with fellow gamers, rock out to a slamming video game concert, play some of the classics from your childhood, and much more. It's by fans, for the fans, and is about 1,000 or so people total, and registration is cheap and open to every of all ages.

There ALSO may be a special guest appearing to promote the film, but at this time I cannot confirm or deny that he/she is coming. When more details become available, I will announce them immediately. If you can't make it to MAGFest 5, then definitely come to Tales of Anime, as I am planning to go there as well and DMC3: TSoS will probably be showing there. And of course, can't forget that Reuben Langdon and Dan Southworth (Dante and Vergil's voice actors) will be Honored Guests at ToA as well.

After filming is complete and I return home, I will be doing a follow up post to tell everyone how the project went and will also be giving fans an opportunity to design an official flyer for the movie using a graphic I will supply. Until then, wish my gaming fingers luck, and pray for no technical errors!

Last Chance Early Bird!

Just a small bit of news this time for those of you who have not pre-registered for Tales of Anime yet. Most of you have probably already seen the Live Action Stunt Test for DMC3: starring Reuben Langdon as Dante. It was prep for a live-action commercial that was never shot. BUT the test itself has gotten almost 100,000 views and been favorated some 800 times. I was looking at the many comments on it, and one of them was from one greatful-sounding Ken Ohara, thanking people for liking it. Mr. Ohara is the main in-house director for Zero Gravity, Mr. Langdon's stunt team. Out off appreciation for him and his awesomeness, I put forth this, his demo reel and an "I Spy" for some of the stuff in it.

-- Live action footage of Dan Southworth in a never-was-shot Vergil fight.

-- Reuben in a suit, still with his white Dante hair.

-- A dude in a green fake beard killing people with a stick.

--Some quality face-on-pool-table action.

So watch the Demo Reel already!

Pre-Reg opens for ToA

You can now Pre-Register for the "Tales of Anime" con, taking place April 4th-6th at the San Mateo Marriot.

A new Special Guest has been added: Johnny Yong Bosch aka "Nero" from DMC4.

Geek-tastic.

Dante and Vergil to be Guests at Convention!

Reuben Langdon ("Dante" from DMC3, voice and mo-cap) and Dan Southworth ("Vergil" from DMC3, same deal) are confirmed Guests of Honor at the "Tales of Anime" convention, taking place April 6th-8th 2007 at the San Mateo Marriot, just south of San Francisco.

Check out more info at the Tales of Anime Official Site.

I am SO there.

Devil May Cry 4 Teaser Details Released!

The first details of DMC4 have been released in Famitsu magazine in Japan. The biggest peice of news is that the unthinkable has happened:
Dante is not the main character. The player will in fact be controlling "Nero:" No, not Nero as in mistranslation of Nelo as in Nelo Angelo as in Vergil, but in fact a totally new character to the franchise.

Nero is a lot like Dante: he has white hair, wears a red vest and a long black coat, uses a big sword and a gun in each hand. He also has an ability tied in with his demonic right arm called "Devil Bringer" which is supposedly "Something the PS2 could not handle." He is confirmed to be significantly younger then Dante is. He is also a knight from a secret sect that views Sparda as a god and is questing to undo some seal of Sparda's when all of his allies are killed...by Dante. While speculation about Nero and who he is runs rampant, there is no more official information.

Capcom has stated that there will be a "Suprise" presentation at thier main stage on the last day of TGS. Playable Dante, maybe?

Head to the forums, people, and discuss. And see the Magazine Scans.

Devil May Cry takes on Sonic in Best Series Ever Contest

Yep, you heard it, DMC fans. The Devil May Cry Series is facing off agains the Sonic the Hedgehog Series in the GameFAQs Best Series Ever Contest. This particular matchup should be interesting, and may even be a close call, since both game series have large fan communities. Sonic may have the edge with age, though, so keep your fingers crossed!

The voting will begin at 9 PM Pacific Standard Time (West Coast) tonight, so be sure to to and show your support for Dante and the crew!

Euro Box Art for DMC3: SE Revealed

I recently stumbled upon the box art for the upcoming release of Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition for the European territories. The PEGI and USK box shots are viewable for everyone in high resolution glory.

And to our PAL viewers out there, don't forget that DMC3: SE will be released in your area on September 29th, 2006. Enjoy!

Devil May Cry 3: SE will release in European (PAL) Territories

Capcom of Europe just issued a Press Release stating that Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition is going to see a release in all PAL territories this coming September.

The Press Release reads in part:

London ¾ 19th May 2006 — Capcom™ today announced plans to release Devil May Cry3™: Dante’s Awakening Special Edition for the PlayStationâ 2 computer entertainment system across all PAL territories on 29th September 2006. The special edition features a mass of exclusive additional content, new gameplay options and Vergil, Dante’s evil twin brother, is available as an extra playable character from the start of the game.

We're looking into confirming Vergil's playability from the START of the game with Capcom of Europe. DMC3: SE's release in the states required a save data from the original DMC3 to unlock Vergil, or the completiion of the game with Dante, or even the completion of Bloody Palace Mode.

EDIT: Capcom of Europe confirmed with me via email that Vergil will indeed be playable from the start of the game, with absolutely no fulfillments needed to complete before using him in the game. If any other features in the PAL version of the game are different or new, we'll update on them to keep you posted.

Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition is officially slated for a September 29th, 2006 release in Europe, as stated above. We'll bring more info and media to you on this as it becomes available.

The full press release can be accessed here.
