E3 2006: DMC4 MIA?

It's unfortunate to admit, but when I got to Capcom's booth yesterday, there was absolutely no sign of the much anticipated Devil May Cry 4 for the PlayStation 3. I looked further into this by speaking with Capcom's Head of Public Relations, and sadly there's no new info this year...no press release, no expected release date...not even a trailer. Capcom's presentation this year was largely centered around Dead Rising, Lost Planet, and God Hand. Even the new Mega Man titles were crammed into a corner this year.

With all that in mind, I didn't bother looking any further into the potential of the game showing up, but I have recently learned that there's a rumor circling around the Expo about DMC4 making a surprise appearance at the end of E3 tomorrow afternoon. I should remind everyone that this is only speculation, and I didn't hear it from Capcom, either.

Shawn McPherson showed up for E3 yesterday and today as well, so it was awesome to see him again as well as chat and meet fans of his DMC3 work during the show. He was also gracious enough to help film my spur of the moment interview with Japanese Mega Man creator, Keiji Inafune, which will be online at Planet Mega Man shortly after E3 ends.

I'll be watching Capcom's booth closely for any surprise announcements tomorrow, but don't get your hopes up, everyone. Considering the announcement of the PS3's pirce, I wouldn't be surprised if Capcom's loyalty gravitated toward the Nintendo Wii and Xbox 360 for most of their future game releases, especially since Dead Rising and Lost Planet are destined for Microsoft's console.

First, the Tekken 6 trailer was very unappealing, no new characters announced...nada. And second, no new DMC 4 info not even an unappealing trailer like Tekken to show. I wouldn't blame Capcom...it would be weird seeing Dante in Nintendo's new Wii or Microsoft's Xbox 360...but alot of people have voiced complaints about Sony's hefty console price...Sony is dropping the ball on this one. I wouldn't be surprise if either Microsoft or Nintendo will be #1 for the upcoming 4 or 5 years until the next batch of consoles. It truly saddens me Sony has taken this root and let there ego get the best of them. I'll try and come back either tomorrow night or Monday afternoon to see if there's any new DMC 4 info. There's a rumor going around that "Capcom will have a surprise at 4:00 PM (California)", so there's still hope. Although I wouldn't get my hopes up for DMC4, there's still allot of other games out there Capcom can advertise. Capcom should be reminded that DMC franchise was the won that took them to the top and competing franchises like Konami with their MGS games. I'm still pissed at the lack of even a slight glimpse, but it's not all that surpising. The list of games they released before E3 didn't have DMC4, it was foolish to think it would have been there, and TGS again, is always a bigger event for Capcom. But I know for a fact that Megaman is not that popular a title anymore, and that DMC is amoung Capcom's best selling franchises right now. Because it's a lot cheaper for them to make. They'll get more coming in than whats coming out. They must do. Megaman must still be popular, or they wouldnt make as much as 6 sequels to the Battle Network games, and 4 of the Zero games, up to 8 of the X games, AND they're remaking all of them. 	Lobuk said: Megaman is only popular depending on what version you're talking about. The original Megaman series is all but dead, who knows when or if 9 will come out. Megaman X is also dying pretty quickly, 7 and 8 were both bad games and loses for Capcom. Command Mission didn't fare as well as they expected either. The Zero games are good (IMO, the best Megaman games being released ATM) although I don't think they're anywhere near carrying Capcom. The Battle Network series was a good attempt at a Pokemon-like take over, all though it's been losing allot of fanbase sense 3 onward. And the TV show has never been all that popular except amoung hardcore Megaman fans. Like I said, I AM a Megaman fan, I'm eagerly awaiting Battle Network 6, ZX, and with any luck info on X9 or Zero 5, but it's not that huge a money maker. DMC is Capcom's best selling series for the PS2, I'm not saying the Megaman series doesn't make more, it might (I haven't seen the numbers of the Megaman sales figures), but there's only been 3 DMC games vs. at least 13 recent Megaman titles I can think of from the top of my head. Each DMC game without a doubt is making more than each Megaman game if DMC is currently Capcom's best selling series. May 14, 2006 1:26 PM
