The "Sins"
A dangerous enemy that floats around, attempting to get within range to utilize their various weapons. The only physical point of them is their mask. They manifest through it. Destroy the mask and you destroy the spirit.
Attacks
Weapons- The "Sins" will usually attempt to close with Dante and use their Scissors or Scythes.
Throw- The "Scythe" class of Sin will throw their scythes at Dante in similar fashion to Dante's own "Round Trip" move.
Death Spin- The high class "Scissor" Sins will spiral towards Dante with a highly damaging stab.
Strategy:
The "Sins" were manifested during a time when firearms weren't used. Therefore, using such weapons as the Shotgun or the Grenade Launcher will easily take them off guard, for the higher ranked "Sins" you will need to take to the air in Devil trigger and fire some of your more spectacular moves.
Sargasso
These demons are the guardians of the gate to the Abyss. They exist in the realm between Earth and Sea. They resemble floating human skulls.
Attacks
Gas Cloud- The Sargasso ejects a gas cloud from its mouth. This attack is seldom used and amounts to little more than an annoyance.
Bite- The Sargasso closes with Dante and attempts to bite him several times. Low damage, easily avoidable.
Strategy:
Strategy- They won't attack until Dante gets close, a couple swipes from the sword will easily destroy them. If things get up close and personal use the shotgun to remind them that Dante likes his personal space.
Kyklops
These large spiders are the little cousins to Phantom, manifesting from rock instead of Lava
Attacks
Rock Spit- The Kyklops chews up a varying amount of rock and spits it at Dante.
Pounce- The Kyklops leaps into the air and attempts to crush Dante on the way down.
Claw Swipe- The Kyklops Reaches forward and swipes at Dante just as Phantom did.
Strategy:
Use some strategies similar to those you used with Phantom. If all else fails, take to the air with Air Raid or Vortex to eliminate them.
Marionettes
Marionettes amount to little more than a thorn in your side during your travels through Mallet. They are life-sized copies of the castle inhabitants, animated by the strings of Evil.
Attacks
Leg Wrap- The Marionette will pounce on Dante and slash for his throat.
Whirlwind Attack- The Marionette flies towards you in a whirling wall of blades. This attack is difficult to avoid.
Screech- The marionette lets out a screech that suspends Dante helpless by the strings of Evil.
Throw- The Marionette whirls its weapons and throws them at Dante. Those wielding shotguns will shoot instead.
Strategy:
There's no one strategy for killing a Marionette. Truly, these are simply target practice for the tougher demons. Use whatever tactics you see fit to eliminate them, if your not expecting a boss fight, pull out your Devil trigger and practice the abilities, otherwise, have fun.
(Author's Note: Marionette's are by far the easiest enemy to perform the "Juggle" on. If they begin to swarm you, pull out a Holy Water, Inferno, or the shotgun to clear a path.)
Fetish
A higher class of Marionette.
Attacks
Yo-Yo- The marionette hurls it's blades at Dante before pulling them back to its hands.
Flame Thrower- The Marionette spews some of its core out through its mouth, resulting in a hellish flame thrower.
Whirlwind Attack- The Fetish flies towards you in a whirling wall of blades. This attack is difficult to avoid.
Screech- The Fetish lets out a screech that suspends Dante helpless by the strings of Evil.
Strategy:
The Fetish will not be impressed with Dante's usual Marionette tactics. Most melee attacks can and will be blocked. Arm yourself with the grenade launcher and engage them from as far away as possible. The "Juggle" is also entirely possible if you can issue a "High Time" without being blocked.
Beelzebub
These evil spirits take the form of insects that Swarm about Dante. They are only slightly more dangerous than the Marionette.
Attacks
Maggots- The "Maggots" that these demons spit at you are actually evil spirits which keep your guns from functioning.
(Author's Note: The above attack is paraphrased from the game file, I however have never seemed to have an issue with my guns during these fights, even when covered in maggots.)
Head ram- The flying demons attempt to ram Dante to the ground.
Back Slash- The insect will cling to Dante's back and repeatedly slash at his back.
Strategy:
A single blast from a shotgun will kill two or three at a time, keep moving and shooting to dodge the ground bugs.
Blades
The "Blades" were the dark Emperor's shock troops. They are designed to take over the earth from the surface. Reptilian in nature, they wear armored helmets and shields and resort to using their claws in combat.
Attacks
Claw Slash- The Blade will lunge forward and slash at Dante with its claws.
Claw Shoot- The Blade will condense blood into its hand and use the pressure to launch its claws at Dante.
Strategy:
The Blades are lightning quick, but not so quick as a grenade won't touch them. Switch to the grenade launcher and use the "Rolling Grenades" tactic (outlined in the Attacks section) to quickly eliminate them. When push comes to shove, take to the air with Air Raid.
Frost
A higher class of Blade. These have the forces of Ice at their disposal.
Attacks
Displacement- The Frost displaces its body to another place in the battlefield, if Dante is in the path of the displacement, he will be hit.
Claw Shoot- The Frost will condense blood into its hand and use the pressure to launch its claws at Dante.
Cold Wave-The Frost leaps to the air and slams back to the ground in an attack very similar to Dante's Inferno.
Impalement- The Frost will send its spirit through the ground, resulting in several shards of ice shooting up from the ground beneath Dante.
Strategy:
Use a strategy similar to the Blade. Be careful, the Frost has a lot more fight in it than its lower cousin.
Plasma
A shape shifting demon which commands the forces of Electricity.
Attacks
Eye Beam- When in human form, the Plasma will shoot a beam of energy from its eye.
Sword cut- The Plasma will slash at Dante with a sword that looks incredibly familiar.
Regeneration- When Dante strikes the killing blow, the Plasma will split into two new Plasmas, both with full health.
Strategy:
The Plasma is by far the most annoying enemy in the game. It has the ability to mimic the motions of its opponent during Combat, which means Dante's in for a tough fight. Use a mix of all your abilities to defeat it. Take any fight with a Plasma as a boss battle.
Nobody
A demon with little intelligence that was given no name. They perform a strange dance during combat that saps Dante of his Devil Trigger abilities. When their mask is destroyed, they increase in size and strength.
Attacks:
Eyeball- The Nobody drops a chuink of it's body that looks like an eyeball, which subsequently explodes.
Throw- The Nobody throws an eyeball at Dante.
Crush- A giant arm grows from the Nobody's back and attempts to grab and crush Dante.
Jump Kick- The Nobody lunges forward with a kick that can send Dante flying.
Self-Destruct- When Dante strikes the killing blow, the Nobody will explode and splatter it's toxins everywhere.
Strategy:
(Authro's Note: I myself have never come into combat with the Nobody. If you have a strategy for this monster, e-mail it to the webmaster)
