Firearms tricks
Bullet Juggle
Equip Ebony & Ivory and any sword, hold R1 to target an enemy, swing your analog stick away from them and tap the circle button to perform a High time uppercut, once the enemy is airborne, begin tapping the square button to “Juggle” the enemy with the twin pistols. If you perform it quickly enough, you can force the enemy even higher into the air, resulting in a helpless enemy that can do nothing other than die.
Rolling Grenades
The grenade launcher has a long reload time in between shots, which could result in a bloody mess as Dante struggles to reload and his weapon and his enemies take the opportunity to slash him. To circumvent this, continue holding R1 after to fire a shell, then swing your analog stick to the left or right and tap the triangle button to roll in that direction. Dante will continue reloading even in the roll, the result is, you can fire the grenade launcher immediately upon completing the roll, and roll immediately upon firing the launcher, which will give you a more rapid response, allowing quicker use of this powerful weapon.
Miscellaneous Moves
Kick Jump
Move: T, then T at Height of jump, must be done near a wall or enemy.
Description: this move allows Dante to kick off of a nearby wall or enemy to reach a higher location.
Roll
Move: Hold R1, Control with Analog(s), T
Description: Roll out of the way of oncoming attacks.
Force Edge Attack Moves
Slash
Move: Tap O at timed intervals
Description: This is your basic sword slash. By tapping the O button at certain intervals, you can execute various combos.
High Time
Move: R1, Back, Hold O, Release, O -or- R1, Back, Tap O
This impressive uppercut comes in two forms. By holding down the O key Dante will leap into the air, bringing his enemy with him, where you can elect to tap O again to slash him back down or let him take the "express elevator" with some help from your weapon of choice. Alternatively, by tapping the O key, Dante will execute the uppercut, sending the enemy into the air, while remaining on the ground.
Alastor Attack Moves
Stinger
Move: Hold R1, F, O
Cost: Level 1- 350 Level 2- 1400
Description: When Dante executes this move, he leaps forward and impales his enemy on his sword. Purchasing level 2 increases the range of the leap.
Round Trip
Move: Hold O, release to activate
Cost: 1550
Description: Dante swings one, then takes careful aim and lets his sword fly. Based on the amount of time you held down the key, his sword will slash the enemy multiple times before returning to Dante's hand. While his blade is in Round Trip mode, Dante is forced to use his fists and feet to defend himself.
Air Hike
Move: Tap T at the peak of a jump.
Cost: 4000
Description: Dante executes this move by concentrating his demonic energies under his feet, effectively executing a Kick Jump in mid air.
Air Raid (Devil Trigger)
Move: Activate Devil trigger, jump, then alternate S and X
Cost: 750
Description: Devil Trigger Dante will leap into the air and transform into Alastor, upon his transformation he is capable of gliding through the air and launching bolts of lightning at enemies.
(Author's Note: Air Raid, when perfected, is indispensable during certain boss fights. Griffon especially, the flying beast usually has his weak spot revealed, so if you can fire off a full DT gauge worth of Air Raid you are going to deliver some heavy damage. It is not advised to use Air Raid against bosses such as Nightmare, as he does not reveal the cores for enough time to make the action effective.)
Vortex (Devil Trigger)
Move: Leap into the Air and press O
Cost: Level 1- 1150 Level 2- 2400
Description: Dante again transforms into the embodiment of Alastor and goes into a spinning power dive toward his foes.
Ifrit Attack Moves
Punch
Move: Tap or hold O
Description: Dante executes various kicks and punches, no combos are available, but the individual strikes can be charged.
Rolling Blaze
Move: Left Analog + T
Cost: 3450
Description: Dante's fists and feet become engulfed in flames as he leaps into the air. The result is a decent defensive action if the enemies begin to crowd around.
Magma Drive
Move: R1, Back, O
Cost: 500
Description: This is Ifrit's version of the High Time. The move executes in the same way and can be charged up.
Kick 13
Move: R1, Forward, O
Cost: Level 1-700 Level 2-2100
Description: Ifrit's Version of "Stinger" Again, works the same way, Dante executes a Spinning back kick.
Meteor (Devil Trigger)
Move: Hold R1, Back, O
Cost Level 1-900 Level 2-2700
Description: Dante becomes the embodiment of Ifrit and fires fireballs from his fists. Fiore a volley by tapping the O key, or get close to the enemy and tap the O key to begin a high-speed brawl.
Inferno (Devil Trigger)
Move: T, Left Analog, O
Cost: 4850
Description: One of the more powerful attacks of the game, Dante will leap into the air and perform a diving punch to the ground, which subsequently explodes in a short radius. This attack is devastating to all foes around Dante.
